As needed contract COBOL programmer/anaylst/consultant - Handle all maintenance and changes for existing series of programs to run utility billing and payment tracking, payroll, financial accounting for small towns. Made major modifications to the utility billing to accept meter readings from any of three touch probe systems. Wrote property tax billing and payment tracking system. Visited town offices to install major changes and new property tax system and give instruction on their use. Wrote many one-time programs to do whatever was necessary for the customer.
Welcomed customers as they entered store and invited them to return as they exited. Tagged packages customers brought into store, gave out Smiley stickers and other promotional materials as directed, assisted customers as necessary, stayed on alert for anyone attempting to exit store without paying for goods.
Crew Leader for the Census 2000 Non Response Follow Up operation. Supervise crew performing census operations in a specific geographic area within Carroll County, Maryland in an attempt to get the best counts possible according to laws enacted and instructions authorized by the Congress of the United States.
Wrote new and modified old Quikjobs to create reports and make file corrections as part of a group working on preparing for migration of data from current system to new system. Wrote a COBOL II program to create a new cost accounting report and researched old cost accounting programs, with which I had worked during my previous employment at Random House (1/84 - 10/89), to assist a team preparing to make Y2K changes.
Modified cost accounting programs to use July thru June instead of Jan thru Dec in year-to-date selections and accumulations, made Y2K changes and converted the programs to COBOL II.
