• 33 years experience as programmer/analyst/consultant working with IBM mainframe systems 7080, 360 and 370; Honeywell mainframe systems 2000 and 6000; IBM PC and compatibles; and Apple and Tandy microcomputers.
• Primary experience is in determining causes of problems and fixing them and enhancing existing programs with the greatest amount of work being done in various forms of COBOL. Currently working with PC COBOL systems and setting up Internet Web Pages using HTML code.
• Have worked with a variety of operating systems and software products and currently working on adding website construction to my proficiencies. The variety list includes DOS, OS, VS, VSAM, MS-DOS, WINDOWS 3.x, WINDOWS 95, COBOL (E, F, 74, RM, ACCUCOBOL), JCL, OWL, Quikjob, SPF, ISPF, Panvalet, BASIC, BASICA, QBASIC, TSS, TOSC4, TOSC6, Autocoder (IBM 7080 programming language), NUTSHELL and NUTPLUS database, WordStar, Word Perfect, Excel, Access. Attended classes in ALC, RPG, Fortran, systems analysis, data management, database concepts and design. For last two years, have been working part time with HTML code.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

• 9/93 - Present: Municipal Services Group; Manchester, MD

  As needed contract COBOL programmer/anaylst/consultant - Handle all maintenance and changes for existing series of programs to run utility billing and payment tracking, payroll, financial accounting for small towns. Made major modifications to the utility billing to accept meter readings from any of three touch probe systems. Wrote property tax billing and payment tracking system. Visited town offices to install major changes and new property tax system and give instruction on their use. Wrote many one-time programs to do whatever was necessary for the customer.

• 1/98 - 10/98: Random House; Westminster, MD

  Wrote new and modified old Quikjobs to create reports and make file corrections as part of a group working on preparing for migration of data from current system to new system. Wrote a COBOL II program to create a new cost accounting report and researched old cost accounting programs, with which I had worked during my previous employment at Random House (1/84 - 10/89), to assist a team preparing to make Y2K changes.

  Modified cost accounting programs to use July thru June instead of Jan thru Dec in year-to-date selections and accumulations, made Y2K changes and converted the programs to COBOL II.

• 10/89 - 11/90: DISC, Inc.; Baltimore, MD

  Senior Programmer/Analyst - Made changes to customized versions of company's bank software. Answered telephone inquiries from various customer bank management and data processing employees to help them understand the bank software and solve any problems they had installing or using it.

• 1/84 - 10/89: Random House; Westminster, MD

  Senior Programmer - Solely responsible for maintaining existing programs and writing new programs in batch cost accounting system. Wrote batch programs and complex report programs for royalty system and various other systems.

• 1/80 - 1/84: PHH Group, Inc.; Hunt Valley, MD

  Senior Programmer - Maintained current batch and online transaction driven systems. Made major and minor modifications to programs involving order processing, status monitoring, control, history, inventory and various reporting systems. Wrote many programs for diagnosing file problems, making file fixes and extracting information.

• 4/79 - 1/80: American Bank Stationery Co.; Baltimore, MD

  Programmer/Analyst - Made modifications to already existing payroll, mailing list & sales record systems. Wrote programs to create sales analysis reports.

• 1/76 - 8/78: Social Security Administration; Woodlawn, MD

  Computer Specialist - Participated in Panvalet implementation study and helped develop the standards for Panvalet library system use. As representative to TSO users' group, helped develop standards and procedures for TSO use. Familiarized other programmers with use of TSO terminals and systems.

• 9/75 - 12/75: IATF; Washington, DC

  Computer Specialist - Detached assignment to Inter-Agency Task Force for resettlement of Indochinese refugees. Participated in designing a system to process and maintain volunteer agency billing information. Wrote programs to extract statistical data concerning refugees.

• 9/67 - 8/75: Social Security Administration; Woodlawn, MD

  Computer Specialist - Started as Programmer Trainee and progressed through Computer Programmer to Computer Specialist position. Gained considerable skill writing, testing and maintaining programs for large and medium scale computers. Wrote operating instructions and procedures. Assisted in systems planning and development. Coordinated the overall flow of programming projects. Represented my branch and division in negotiations with other divisional programming staffs and analysts to coordinate data flow.
